Sellers at the first OTC sale of the season experienced first hand the reality of recent market shifts.  Some sellers were unable to accept the prices offered as a result of these adjustments.  The sale consisted of a good fresh collection of coyotes and red fox, plus some early and held over cats.  Many of the goods were not thoroughly dried, which affected the prices offered.

Raw fur traders were cautious, the result of a poor ranch mink sale in Copenhagen and a mediocre wild fur sale in Canada the day before the OTC sale.   We expect good buyer participation at our Prineville sale due to a larger offering of goods and the increased quality of more seasonable pelts.

A very mediocre collection of cats sold strong with a $356.00 top and a respectable average.  The coyote collection was above average with many wet skins.  Buyers were offering 20 – 25 % below last year’s levels on coyotes.  A good collection of red fox (wet skins) and beaver (early as well as held over), was sold almost entirely to the craft trade.  The muskrats consisted of early, flat skins with a high percentage of damaged goods.  Offerings on other items were not sufficient to give market trends.
