Sale Analysis

An eager group of buyers competed for the limited offering of pelts at the Albany sale. Factors affecting the quantity of skins for sale included the high price of gasoline, the unseasonably wet weather in the weeks before the sale, and the timing of the sale (6 weeks earlier than previous years).

With the exception of raccoon and nutria, trappers were very pleased with the prices they received. Beaver, otter, mink, and muskrats were steady to last season’s prices. Coyotes and western bobcats showed significant improvement. Specialty items such as civet, skunk, and badger increased slightly. The price paid for deer and elk antler is a reflection of the goods offered for sale – the bulk of which was cracked and chalky antler.
