A rather
ordinary collection of primarily western Oregon fur was offered at the third
OTC sale of the season. As with our
previous sales, semi-dry and poorly handled furs resulted in lower than
anticipated prices. Select quality
pelts continue to bring premium prices, while most of the collection is offered
prices that trappers view as mediocre at best.
Otter remains a bright spot, with the sale average again near the
century mark. Beaver prices showed a
marked improvement over last years sale.
Prices on mink, raccoon, possum, nutria, skunk, and coyote were similar
to last season which is a reflection of the general market on these
items. Bobcat and muskrat averages were
down based mostly on the quality of the offering. There continues to be a strong demand for porcupine guard hair
and beaver castor. The offering of deer
and elk antler was too small to determine market trends.
